The Inspiration

Inspired by a group of concerned community advocates and leaders,
Mid-Iowa Community News is being designed and developed to provide Ames and surrounding Mid-Iowa communities with a relevant, thorough, independent, non-partisan local news source.

The Ames Voice

Mid-Iowa Community News will own and operate an independent news organization the Ames Voice, which will be a web-based news outlet run by local journalists. The Voice will publish regularly and cover topics such as city councils, school boards, businesses, sports, and features.

The Voice will be supported through advertising, various sponsorships, grants, and individual donor giving.

Meet Our Directors

Mid-Iowa Community News, Inc. is managed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. Directors serve a total of three years per term, and can serve in three consecutive terms. Unless the Director formally resigns or is removed from office, they will remain in office until their successors are properly elected by the seated Directors.

A lifelong Story County resident. Former director of the Ames Public Library. A committed volunteer with a strong passion for community building through collaboration.

A resident of Ames since 1972. She has served on many local non-profit organizations and is presently serving as President of the League of Women Voters of Ames and Story County.

The Minnesota Daily’s Executive Director & Co-Publisher. Graduate of Iowa State University and the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication. Former Iowa State Daily student and professional staff.

Al Weber

Al Weber

Ames resident since 1990. Former president of the Ames Tribune. Served as the President of the Ames Chamber of Commerce, and of the United Way of Story County, board member of the Ames Noon Rotary, the Story County Conservation Board, and the Ames Education Foundation.

The MICN Community Council is a group of a passionate volunteers made up of local leaders, business professionals and engaged community members.

Founding Community Council member, and former Iowa State University, Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, professor.

Cornelia Butler-Flora

Founding Community Council member, and Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Iowa State.

Ann Campbell

Founding Community Council member, and former Ames mayor. She is the publisher of the Ames Bulletin Board magazine.

Anthony Capps

Founding Community Council member, an ISU graduate of the Greenlee School of Journalism and Communication, and a former reporter at the Ames Tribune.

Jan Flora

Founding Community Council member, and Professor Emeritus of Sociology at Iowa State.

Susan Gwiasda

Founding Community Council member, and a former reporter for the Dubuque Telegraph Herald and current Public Relations Officer for the City of Ames.

Anne Kinzel

Founding Community Council member, and healthcare policy specialist and local community advocate.

Mike Krapfl

Founding Community Council member, and former reporter for the Ames Tribune and current Strategic Relations and Communications at Iowa State University.

Warren Madden

Founding Community Council member, and former Vice President of Finance for Iowa State University.

Bill Monroe
